here was a time, not so very long ago, that toys were not made from flimsy neon plastic, but from  good iron, steel, brass, and other metals, cloth,  porcelain, and wood. Instead of using batteries by the ton,  they ran on the power of a spring, or steam, or that best of  all possible power sources, imagination.... 
Come with us to visit an earlier time, before over-regulation and litigation stifled imagination. Collected here are some re-introductions of old-time favorites, made in much the same way that they were  in the early part of the last century.

Many of these items now bear labels that say  "For Collectors Only, Not For Children",  not because they  are any less safe than they used to be, but because they  still may have small parts, or some sharp edges, or functional points, or even get hot. These are still the same toys that so many children were overjoyed to find under that old fir tree on a Christmas morning the day before yesterday. This label is mostly there to protect the manufacturers and retailers from those people who fail to properly supervise their children; then when something unfortunate (but all too often preventable) happens, will then go looking for someone else to blame.  There is really no reason why, with a little caution, adult supervision,  and some common sense, many of these toys should not continue to delight a  whole new generation.
